The Innovation in Teaching and Learning Engagement hub (TITLEh)

George Brown College is on the cusp of a shift in how we engage our students, faculty, and external stakeholders. The 2020 Strategy, the Academic Plan, and the Academic Computing Strategy all outline a vision for the College that is rooted in innovation and excellence in teaching, learning, and research. Aligned with this vision, is the aim of facilitating a shift in thinking from delivery to engagement or actually to facilitating engagement in meaningful learning experiences. Such a shift in thinking naturally favours more web-enhanced, hybrid, and fully online engagement (including engagement through mobile devices) in the teaching and learning relationship.

The Innovation in Teaching and Learning Engagement hub facilitates this shift through a hybrid model of support that incorporates both centralized and decentralized elements. The Hub replaces the previous entity known as LIAD and reports directly to the Vice President, Academic.

The purpose of the Hub includes (but is not limited to):

  • facilitating the implementation of the Academic Computing Strategy by being the coordinating interface between all areas of the college and its stakeholders regarding e-learning and academic computing;
  • managing the e-learning @ GBC website;
  • providing access to funds for innovation in e-learning and academic computing;
  • coordinating the trialing, and potential mainstreaming of technologies related to e-learning and academic computing;
  • encouraging inter-institutional cooperation and collaboration;
  • coordinating and informing the development of policy relating to e-learning and academic computing;
  • in conjunction with the schools, faculties, and divisions, developing institutional processes, standards, and QA protocols relating to e-learning and academic computing;
  • identifying best practices and disseminating these practices across the college;
  • providing administrative support across the VLE;
  • coordinating online testing;
  • coordinating the computer skills course, whilst reviewing the currency and appropriateness of such endeavors;
  • coordinating professional development and training relating to e-learning, academic computing, and the VLE more broadly; and
  • Reviewing, undertaking, and commissioning research related to e-learning and academic computing;
